In our fast-paced, goal-oriented world, it’s easy to lose sight of the little things. We are so driven to the big, flashy goals in our lives that often we’re convinced that we can’t be happy until we achieve them. I’ve heard so many people, myself included, say, “I’ll be happy when _______.”
What if ______never comes? Does that mean I should be unhappy in the meantime? Is living supposed to stop until I achieve the goals I’ve been waiting for and working so hard toward?
Of course not.
One thing I’ve learned is not to hang my happiness on a peg higher than I can reach. Happiness doesn’t only come in the big, sweeping achievements in life. It’s everywhere, and readily available if we know where and how to look for it.
Happiness can curl up with you in a comfy chair and a good book. If can be the right word said at the right time, that lights up someone else’s eyes. It can be a flavorful cup of coffee, the perfect golf swing or that brief moment of stillness in an otherwise chaotic day. While happiness can be those grand things we wish for, it can also disguise itself in the perfect, fleeting moments when everything comes together to affirm life.
You don’t have to wait to be happy.
Happiness comes to us every day in unassuming ways if we just stop to recognize and appreciate it.
